Born of a time when beer was beer

With the modern-day drinker looking for their next sour, their next chocolate fudge birthday cake pale ale, their next flavour hit…we ask the question, where did it all start? Never mind the craft ale revolution. This is the Industrial Revolution.

Our all-malt amber bitter was first brewed in 1828 to satisfy thirsty Mancunians grafting in the workshop of the world. Tough times. The water came with a ‘please drink responsibly’ warning, not the beer. But it wasn’t just that water was undrinkable. We’d struck upon the most satisfyingly drinkable ale.

While this might be our most traditional brew, it’s attracting a new breed of ale enthusiasts, like photography aficionados turning to film or music connoisseurs returning to vinyl. Generations returning to fashion trends and thrift stores, traditional card and board games. All in the same way beer connoisseur will return to humble pint of amber ale.

Our Bitter was truly born of a time when beer was beer. It was born of a time when tough times called for an easy-drinking beer. It was born when beer was for talking over, not about. It was born when times were simpler, thankfully, so was our beer. Let’s raise a glass to Britain’s most reliable ale. Bitter.
