Legendary Strong Ale
JW Lees Moonraker is a strong ebony ale with rich, warming notes. It’s a complex brew. Think deep fruity undertones with bold hints of liquorice. A robust ale with a smooth, satisfying finish.
THE STORY OF MOONRAKER...
JW Lees Moonraker is as crafty as the myth it is named after. First brewed in 1950, our malty award-winning Moonraker is dedicated to a local legend. The story goes that farmers near the JW Lees brewery fell into a pond while attempting to rake out a truckle of cheese. The simpletons were mistaken. It was the Moon’s reflection. Or was it? These farmers weren’t as daft as they looked. They’d concocted their tale to fool the local constabulary investigating missing contraband.
Moonraker’s fruity aroma and rich, sweet flavour are now the stuff of legends, too. Lovely with a slice of cheese, ironically..
Moonraker is a 4 times CAMRA winner in the Barley Wine & Strong Old Ales Class, taking home 2 golds, 1 silver & 1 bronze award
