BORN OF A TIME
WHEN BEER
WAS BEER
JW Lees Bitter is an all-malt amber ale made using crystal malt and Golding hops. Deep amber with a floral aroma, its clean, dry taste is balanced with rich malt flavours and smooth bitterness. Its subtle citrus aftertaste makes it exceptionally drinkable.
THE STORY OF BITTER...
Born of a time when beer was beer and none so sought after than the great British Bitter.
Our all-malt amber bitter was first brewed in 1828 to satisfy thirsty Mancunians grafting in the Victorian era workshop of the world. Tough times. The water came with a ‘please drink responsibly’ warning, not the beer. But it wasn’t just that water was undrinkable. We’d stuck upon the most satisfyingly drinkable ale. It soon became our most popular beer, and it’s stayed that way. Today, it’s Manchester’s oldest and most original beer, now attracting a new breed of ale enthusiasts, like photography aficionados turning to film or music connoisseurs returning to vinyl. Our bitter is a simpler beer from simpler times.
